Milne Acting Studio
Studio Policies
Revised: April 2026
Being a student at Milne Acting Studio is a commitment, not a transaction. Training here requires presence, discipline, and respect for the process and for the people in the room with you. Please read this policy in full before your first class. Your enrollment signals that you have read, understood, and agreed to each section below. Many thanks, The Milne Acting Studio Team.
1. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Milne Acting Studio and its founder, Brad Milne, hold full ownership of all intellectual property associated with this studio and its training content. The following are registered trademarks of Brad Milne and Milne Acting Studio:
In The Nouns™
PERGE™
Go Moment™
All course content, exercises, frameworks, written materials, photographs, and videos captured at Milne Acting Studio classes, bootcamps, coaching sessions, self-tape sessions, and demo reel sessions are the sole property of Milne Acting Studio. Students, interns, and staff who have access to studio intellectual property through their training or employment are prohibited from duplicating, reproducing, or repurposing any Milne Acting Studio classes or services in any form.
Unauthorized use or reproduction of Milne Acting Studio's intellectual property constitutes theft and may be subject to legal action under Canadian intellectual property law. For further information: Canadian Intellectual Property Office, www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/cipointernet.nsf/eng/home
2. CHANGES IN POLICY AND COURSE SCHEDULE
Milne Acting Studio reserves the right to combine, add, delete, or modify courses at any time. This includes converting existing in-studio courses to online delivery. Milne Acting Studio also reserves the right to make changes in faculty, the studio calendar, and any general or course-specific policy at its sole discretion. Students are responsible for checking the studio calendar and all studio communications for up-to-date information.
3. ATTENDANCE
Training at Milne Acting Studio is not just about the moments when you are on your feet doing your own work. It is equally about being present to watch your fellow actors work. Observation is part of the craft. Full attendance and full attention are both required.
PUNCTUALITY
Students are required to arrive at the studio at least 15 minutes before their scheduled class time. This is not a suggestion. Arriving early allows you to settle, prepare, and enter the room ready to work. Walking in at class time is arriving late. Walking in after class has begun disrupts the environment for every student in the room.
CLASS CHECK-IN
When a class check-in notification is sent, students are required to respond promptly. The check-in process helps the studio prepare the class and confirm participation. If you are unable to attend a class, remove your check-in immediately upon receiving the notification. Do not wait. Prompt communication allows the studio and your classmates to plan accordingly.
LATE ARRIVAL POLICY
If you know you will be more than 15 minutes late to a class, do not come to that class. Notify your instructor, skip that week, and attend the following week. Arriving significantly late after class has begun is not fair to your scene partners or to the students whose work you will have missed. Late arrivals of this kind will not be permitted unless the instructor has granted explicit approval in advance.
GENERAL ATTENDANCE
Student attendance is monitored. Continued absenteeism affects your scene partners and the integrity of the class as a whole. In cases of extreme absenteeism, Milne Acting Studio may take action, including removal from the program. The instructor sets attendance expectations. It is the student's responsibility to show up consistently, engage fully, and get the most out of their training.
4. CLASS PACKS
WEEKLY CLASS PACKS
Weekly class packs are designed for consecutive-week training because actor growth happens through consistent repetition, not sporadic attendance. One makeup class is provided with each pack. Packs must be completed within the following time frames:
4-class pack: complete within 6 weeks
6-class pack: complete within 8 weeks
8-class pack: complete within 11 weeks
10-class pack: complete within 13 weeks
12-class pack: complete within 16 weeks
OPEN CLASS PACKS
Open class packs may be used for any eligible class within one year from the date the first class in the pack is attended.
5. STUDIO MEDIA, RECORDING, AND SOCIAL MEDIA
IN-CLASS AND STUDIO MEDIA
All video and still images captured during classes and studio events are the property of Milne Acting Studio. The studio may use this media in promotional materials and educational content to support its mission and further actors’ careers. Enrollment implies consent to this use.
Students who prefer that their image or video not be used in studio materials are asked to notify the studio in writing before their first class or any class in which they have a specific concern. No explanation is required. The studio will honor that preference completely and without question.
IN-CLASS RECORDING BY STUDENTS
Students are not permitted to record, photograph, or stream any portion of a class without prior written consent from both the instructor and all other students present. This protects the privacy of your scene partners and preserves the integrity of the training environment.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Milne Acting Studio's intellectual property, including exercises, methodology content, and instructional material, may not be posted, shared, or distributed on social media or any other public platform without prior written authorization from Milne Acting Studio. Students who share class content without consent will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including removal from the program.
6. UNSOLICITED FEEDBACK AND NEGATIVE COMMENTARY
Milne Acting Studio is a training environment built on trust. Students empower and inspire one another. Unsolicited feedback or negative commentary on another student's performance, whether said directly to that student or indirectly to others, will not be tolerated. This includes students attempting to coach or direct another student's performance in class. That role belongs to the instructor.
7. HEALTH
Milne Acting Studio maintains a strict health policy. Any student experiencing symptoms of cold, flu, COVID-19, or any contagious illness on or before the day of class must notify their instructor in advance. In that case, the student will not lose a class from their pack. Students are allotted one sick day per four weeks of enrollment.
8. SCENT-FREE ENVIRONMENT
In consideration of the health and comfort of all students and faculty, the studio is scent-free. Strong colognes, perfumes, and other fragrances can trigger allergic reactions or sensitivities in others. Please arrive at the studio without any strong scent.
9. PAYMENT
Payment may be made by credit card, Interac e-Transfer, cash, money order, or personal cheque. Students must be paid in full before attending any class. Milne Acting Studio offers a Pay Ahead Program for students who wish to make installment payments toward a class pack purchase. Under no circumstances may a student attend class before payment is received in full.
Discounts are advertised alongside class pricing and may not be combined with any other offer. Only one discount applies per enrollment. A $40 fee will be charged for any returned cheques, and the outstanding balance, including the $40 fee, must be paid in full in cash within five business days.
10. REFUNDS AND TRANSFERS
A full refund or credit will be issued if Milne Acting Studio cancels a workshop, seminar, session, or course outright. If Milne Acting Studio postpones and reschedules to a new date, the fee paid is non-refundable.
Once any class pack, course, seminar, bootcamp, workshop, private coaching session, self-tape session, or career counseling service is purchased, the fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Purchased packages may not be sold or transferred to another student. Gift certificates are available for those who wish to share studio access with someone else.
11. ONLINE CLASS
It is each student's responsibility to have a stable, working internet connection that allows full participation with the instructor and scene partners. Each student must create a professional, tidy, and presentable workspace for online training. Your location comes into the class with you. Treat it accordingly.
12. VIRTUAL CLASS
From time to time, instructors may connect with the class remotely via Zoom or another digital platform. These virtual sessions count as regular studio classes and are administered by the attending assistant manager or a designated instructor.
13. SHORT CLASS
If enrollment or attendance drops below the class minimum (generally four students or fewer) during the course of a workshop, the instructor may, at their discretion, call the class short of its pre-designated time, provided the class meets a minimum of two-thirds of that time (generally between one and a half and two hours). No refund or credit will be provided in this circumstance.
14. NON-DISCRIMINATION
Milne Acting Studio is committed to equal opportunity in its educational programs, admissions process, and working relationships with associates and contractors. It is the policy of this studio to provide equal opportunity for all qualified applicants, students, associates, and contractors, and to prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, colour, gender, religion, national origin, age, sexual orientation, dietary preference, political affiliation, physical disability, or marital status, in accordance with applicable Canadian human rights legislation.
15. HARASSMENT
Milne Acting Studio faculty, staff, and students will not condone any action that a reasonable person would consider gender discrimination, sexual harassment, or personal harassment of any kind. This includes inappropriate comments about another student, whether that student is present or not.
Complaints should be made in writing to the Milne Acting Studio Director or Student Resource Manager. Every effort will be made to resolve issues on an individual basis. Any violation of this policy will result in prompt and appropriate disciplinary action.
16. ALCOHOL AND DRUG USE
The unlawful possession, use, or distribution of drugs or alcohol by students, associates, or contractors is strictly prohibited. Milne Acting Studio maintains a drug-free and alcohol-free training environment. Students, associates, or contractors found in violation of applicable federal or provincial law regarding alcohol or controlled substances will be subject to disciplinary procedure and may also face legal consequences.
17. DISCLAIMER
All programs, workshops, and seminars offered at Milne Acting Studio are designed to develop participants’ craft and professional skills. Completion of any class at Milne Acting Studio does not guarantee employment or representation in the entertainment industry.
18. OFFICE RULES AND PROCEDURES
The administrative office is for use by Milne Acting Studio staff and faculty only. Unauthorized entry or use of the office by students, non-associates, or contractors may result in disciplinary action.
19. STUDENT RULE OF CONDUCT
Milne Acting Studio students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects a professional training environment. All students must respect the rights and experiences of others. This includes minimizing device use during performances, giving full attention when classmates receive instructor feedback, and maintaining a standard of behaviour that honors the work.
Our students represent Milne Acting Studio as a whole. Conduct, both inside and outside the classroom, should reflect the studio's values. Milne Acting Studio reserves the right to refuse admission, suspend, or expel any student who does not meet this standard.
20. STUDENT DRESS CODE
Milne Acting Studio faculty reserves the right to set specific dress code standards appropriate to the nature and goals of each class.
21. CLASS SIZE
The number of students assigned to each class is based on a student-to-teacher ratio that supports that class's learning goals. Class sizes are structured to allow meaningful individual feedback. Lecture and seminar classes may accommodate larger groups.
22. AUDITORS
Auditors may attend most actor and filmmaker workshops on a space-available basis. Please contact the studio in advance to request permission and schedule your attendance.
